Juragan Raden Haji Ibrahim Djaya Perbata
(1816 – 1906
Juragan Raden Haji Ibrahim is known as the founder of silat Cikalong, his name is not strange
for the Cianjur people. His given name is Raden Jayaperbata, grandson Raden Wiratanu Datar the
founder of Cianjur City.
Silat as self defense at the time being only to be learn for exclusive circumstance as noble
families or ulama. Silat not to be taught to the ordinary people. So Raden haji Ibrahim is making
breakthrough introducing the silat Cikalong to all level society
Under Raden haji Ibrahim image silat / maenpo is going cool, Since in any exercise he always
cultivating how to be pendekar with good manner. Silat is not just self defense most important
thing is the path of harmony. It will guide in reaching both physical and spiritual intelligent.
This understanding as the result when he was taking meditation in Cilebut cave.
When he was young, he trading an European horses from Batavia to Sundaes noble community.
Fortunately he was meet an iron forge (blacksmith) Bang Madi who able to repair horseshoe.
An incident occurred while Bang Madi work for replacing horseshoes. The horse is going mad and
kicking madness. With skill full technique bang Madi able to defeat horse. From there Raden
haji Ibrahim knows that bang Madi is the silat expert. So his apply to be a pupil.
Bang Madi recommend Raden haji Ibrahim to find Bang Kari in kampong Benteng Tangerang. When
he meet bang Kari, Raden haji Ibrahim was examined to know how deep his silat understanding
and competence which is given from bang Madi.
Raden haji Ibrahim is good talent had been completely down to him. So Raden haji Ibrahim was
mastering both styles character. Bang Madi silat concept concern to power and bang Kari styles
for speed. It’s going into perfect combination.
In Batavia, raden haji Ibrahim was learning
silat from four guru’s, bang Madi (gang Tengah), Rd. Ateng Alimudin (kampong baru Jatinegara),
Bang Ma’ruf (Karet Tanah Abang), and Bang Kari (kampong Benteng Tangerang)
Raden haji Ibrahim then develop silat Cikalong based on both silat Madi and Kari form. Combination
both of those form know popular as Maenpo Cikalong. But unfortunately he was heard a rumor that
is some of his pupils were study others silat form. He tracked the rumor. So he found that is
some of pupils were study to Mohammad Kosim. When raden haji Ibrahim meets with Mohammad Kosim,
eventually he knows that Mohammad Kosim silat’s style is very specific character no arbitrarily
silat form. Then both pendekars were agreed to take oath of allegiance as brotherhood in
implementation their expertise for silat advantageous in Cianjur District. From this point later
on is well known as Silat/maenpo Cikalong and silat Sabandar are the famous silat style and
become an inspiration of many silat educational institutions.
Mohammad Kosim is the wanderer from West Sumatra (Pagaruyung) who lives in kampong Sabandar.
So he got nick name as mama Sabandar.
